Hector is a transgender, Taiwanese multi-disciplinary artist based in London. Trained in dramatic writing and puppetry, He works mainly with puppetry and object theatre, which he uses to connect to childhood and play as a means to navigate trauma and the alienation resulting from it. Most of his work is inspired by personal queer and migrant lived experience. He is also a maker, visual artist, and writes music for his projects. In his mostly self-taught visual arts practice, he seeks to represent trans bodies and explores the idea of rebirth and creation of one’s own reality as a queer/othered individual.
He recently made River’s World, a puppetry short film about a migrant child (commissioned by Little Angel Theatre). His art is featured in FORT’s 2024 all trans calendar. Other recent credits include: puppetry shows Where the Water Falls (puppeteer; Little Angel Theatre) and Lost Personhood (co-designer/writer/performer; The Hope Theatre); puppetry short film—To Think Inside the Box (puppeteer/voice actor; selected for Pebbles Underground, Madness Film Festival and Octopus Marquee Indie Film Festival); new writings—A Thousand Papercuts Still Skin Deep (Playwright, Barons Court Theatre), GREGNANT (playwright/actor, Engine Room, Omnibus Theatre), Wood, Strings, and a Little bit of Brass (playwright, online, commissioned by Peripeteia Theatre Company).
He completed MFA in Writing for Stage and Broadcast Media at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, and trained at Curious School of Puppetry. He co-founded puppetry and object theatre collective Chicken Shop Hermits with fellow Italian artist Chiara Scoglio.
